Promoting Health
When discussing health promotion with children we want to teach good nutritional eating habits that prevent disease later in life such as moderate fat intake, high fiber intake, and low sodium intake. There are models to use as guidelines such as the Five-a-day Program guidelines and the Food Guide Pyramid. Back to: Feeding Children's Bodies | Next: Developing Food Policies

The foods children eat now can influence their future health. You can help children to
enjoy eating healthful foods by offering a variety of choices throughout the day. It is
important to remember that what is healthy eating for you as an adult is not necessarily
ideal for the children in your care. Children need the same nutrients that adults need,
but they need them in very different amounts.
